2005 Jul 13
Tile being installed in the kitchen. Denise did a wonderful job selecting tile colors--they go great with the cabinets and the granite.
|
2005 Jul 04
We got back from Banff and WOW! The new wood floor looks great.
|
2005 Jun 20
Only one thing today--but it was a biggy--about 1000#--the breakfast bar granite! MUY BONITO!
|
2005 Jun 15
Lots of progress in the guest bath and the laundry room. They "attempted" to install the
breakfast bar granite but had lots of problems. The "skirt" on the bar covers the top of
the drawer, the switches/outlets, etc. -- other than that looks great! :-> They took it
back to cut off about 1 cm from the bottom of the skirt. We are expecting to get it installed
probably Wednesday. Then Dave will install the wood floors and the kitchen will, for all
practical purposes, be done. There is a problem with the skylight--pops the breaker.
|
2005 Jun 09
Old kitchen shut down. The sink is setup in the "bar" area. They have started working on the
closet in the laundry room (old kitchen). The big thing is the granite in the new kitchen--sweet!
There is a problem with the bar--the joint on the skirt isn't up to John's (Stone Pro) standard--he is going
to redo it. Also, the welding on the steel brackets wasn't up to snuff--dave caught that.

2005 Jun 03
Almost all of the cabinets are installed -- just the side pieces along the pantry cabinets.
They did a lot of "DINK" work this week and started working on the guest bath.
We tried to order the rest of the bathroom bullnose tile and found there are none in the
US -- backordered until July or September.
We were about to panic until we found 12" bullnose.
We are getting very close to getting the granite counter tops--sometime this week.

2005 May 21
Bedroom done! -- NOT!!! They put in the wrong carpet! There are a few tiny things
yet to pickup in the room--nothing serious. Used the shower for the first time this
morning--works great. Next week the rest of the cabinets should arrive and be installed.
|
2005 May 06
Dave and crew worked hard today, got the grouting in the bathroom done, plumbing put together
in the bathroom, removed the backsplash and remudded the wall (going to have the listels instead
of the counter top material. Looking good! Brian finished (at least all that he can do until the remainder of
the cabinets get here -- another 2 weeks. The cabinets are thrilling--fantastic.
|
2005 May 02
More cabinets installed today and lots of work in the bathroom. Both are looking great!
|
2005 May 01
We received most of the cabinets (1 on back order, 6 "cross-over" custom delay --
due in 18th (approx). The ones we've received are being installed starting last
Friday and through this week. The tiles we've been waiting for have finally arrived.
Dave will be doing the tiling this week and early next week we'll have the new carpet
installed. The glass decorative piece has gone to the artist. Next weekend we'll see
and approve the design. We should be able to move back into the master bedroom in about
7 to 10 days. This weekend we spent a lot of elbo grease in the back yard. As soon as
nights start getting a little warmer we'll plant grass seed and some plants.

2005 Apr 11
Going VERY slow now. Still waiting for the wall tile for the bathroom. Ordered
carpet for the bedroom and the cabinets for the laundry room. The appliances have
been delivered. Wood for the floor in the living room should get here next week.
|
2005 Apr 03
We got sidewalk around the new kitchen on Thursday--there is going to be room to
have flower boxes, a couple of chairs, and a small table. On Saturday they did
the color coat while we were shopping in Santa Fe. On our way out I looked into
the bucket--it was way too light--expected to come home to a problem. When we got
home I was relieved--the medium brown was exactly what we wanted--glad we did the
whole house.
|
2005 Mar 23
We have the green on the walls in the new room and it is looking great. The new
refidge is here and hopefully the rest of the appliances will be delivered next
week (we are waiting on the vent-a-hood). It seems the tile for the walls in the
bathroom got hung up in customs (coming from Italy)--so it may be a few weeks before
we seen any real progress in the master bath although the kick molding is here.
|
2005 Mar 22
The snow really slowed things down--ground is too wet to pour the sidewalks behind
the house. Work inside is going slow too. Waiting for sinks in the master bath.
The new kitchen now has paint on the walls; the color will probably go onto the
walls tomorrow. They were using the paint sprayer on the same circuit as the
computers, popped the circuit breaker, killed the hard drive on one computer--oh,
well.

2005 Mar 12
Gray coat prep for new stucko -- did the whole house.
|
2005 Mar 11
James installed the cabinets in the master bath today. Discovered HomeDepot didn't tell us we needed to order wood for the toe kicks and scribe moulding--back to HD this weekend.
|
2005 Mar 10
They started doing the drywall in the new kitchen today--starting to look like a real room instead of a construction site.
|
2005 Mar 09
Paint in the bedroom and cabinets for the bathrooms have arrived -- one was the wrong one!
|
2005 Mar 06
Friday they did the insulation--much warmer nights now.
Texture is done in the master bedroom--Manny (and team) worked all day Saturday to get it done.
Excellent job.
Sunday, Wayne "tuned" the pointing of the cans in the kitchen ceiling and made some minor adjustments.
With the lights pointing correctly the room actually looks lighter.
|
2005 Mar 01
Lots of plumbing work (hydronic system is in but no gas yet), dry wall in the bedroom, and some electrical today.
The dry wall helps the feeling that we may, some day, actually be done.
|
2005 Feb 24
The beam between the dining room and the activity room has been replaced... looking good.
Windows got installed today and a little plumbing done.
The next week should be very interesting.
|
2005 Feb 23
Lots of seemingly small things the last couple of days that are in reality big things.
The sagging beam that was really just a handful of 2x4s--not even glued is GONE!
A temporary support is holding up the activity room roof at the moment.
The remainder of the recessed lights have arrived and the ceiling fans have arrived.
They've done more work in the steam/shower room. Windows are supposed to arrive tomorrow.
|
2005 Feb 16
BIG MESS TODAY! No more kitchen. Big hole in the wall there too. Started looking at the sagging beam in the dining room.
|
2005 Feb 14
They cut through the walls today (main entry to new kitchen and passthrough. The skylights when in today also. Stuff on the walls for air and vapor barrier.
|
2005 Feb 11
Started covering the roof today--there is an echo in the room! Again more electrical in the Master bath.
|
2005 Feb 10
More work on the trusses today. More electrical in the Master bath.
|
2005 Feb 9
Trusses are here and tacked up. I looks like micro-lam down the middle will do fine.
More work in the Master Bath--some of the electrical in and cement on the floors.
|
2005 Feb 7
Trusses aren't here yet and apparently there is a problem with them!
More work in the Master Bath and a couple of cabinets are gone from the kitchen.
The bench in the kitchen where the hydronic will be is now there.
|
2005 Feb 4
Again more bedroom/bath--I think the floor was thicker than they expected.
The roof trusses should be in on Monday so they are getting ready.
The concrete work has made the house VERY dusty.
|
2005 Feb 3
A little more work in the bathroom and getting ready to cut back the old roof. Appliances ordered yesterday. |
2005 Jan 31
Out went the one of the old bathrooms... |
2005 Jan 25
Some of the sheathing and the frame for the bar pony wall today. |
2005 Jan 24
